Accountability court in Lahore grants one-day exemption to Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz
LAHORE: The Accountability Court has approved Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's request for permanent exemption from court appearances in a money laundering reference.
Justice Qamar uz Zaman held a hearing on the money laundering case on Tuesday. He accepted the Prime Minister's request and authorized him to appoint a representative to appear in court in his place.
Meanwhile, the court also granted a one-day exemption to Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Hamza Shahbaz.
The court asked NAB to respond to Hamza's request for waiver of permanent attendance.
In the reference, NAB claimed that in the last 30 years, the assets of the Shahbaz family had increased from Rs 2 crore to Rs 7,000 crore, which the family could not substantiate.
The authority alleged that family members and benamidars of Shahbaz were receiving bogus foreign transfers into their personal bank accounts, adding that billions of rupees were laundered through foreign money orders deposited in the personal bank accounts of Hamza Shahbaz and Suleman Shahbaz.
